SALKANTAY (5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS )
Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa
We will leave from Cusco between 4:30a.m/ 5:00a.m.A bus will take us to the town of Mollepata (2900 meters above sea level) where we will arrive approximately at 8:15am for breakfast. During the trip we will have panoramic views of the sacred mountain Salkantay.
We will meet with our support staff, and they will load the equipment on horses and mules.Around 9:00 a.m., we will begin our walk toward Sayllapata (3200 meters above sea level). About 13:00p.m., we will have a Peruvian lunch. Then we will continue hiking toward the Soraypampa (3850 meters above sea level). Around 17:30 in the afternoon we will arrive to our camp where the tents will be ready for you as well as your dinner.
Day 2: Soraypampa - Chaullay
After breakfast we will start at 7am ready for the most difficult part of the trek. This is the day where you see a dramatic change in scenery. We will hike to a place called Salkantaypampa, then go toward the left side of the snowy peaks of Umantay located next to the Apu Salkantay. By midday we will reach the highest point( 4.600 mts.). From here you will have breath taking views of mountains and glaciers of Salkantay. After lunch in the community of Huayracmachay you start your descent and continue your walk to the edge of the forest and arrive to Chaullay at approximately 17:00 pm where your camp will be set up for you.
Day 3: Chaullay - Sahuayaco (La playa)
During this day you will see spectacular waterfalls along the way.
From the camp down of Chaullay will be pass for the hot spring Colpapampa. This is a small village where most people only work in growing potatoes. A little further down there is a hot spring, you can take a optional bath.
We will rise early and after a hearty breakfast continue for our journey. We are checking plants, also a chance to observe the formation of thermal waters in a small valley, into hot springs. Then we will continue to follow the river Salkantay around Santa Teresa, here you find huge varieties of orchids and beautiful waterfalls. Also around you are a wide variety of grown coffee, fruit trees, bananas and avocados.
Then we will arrive at Sahuayaco, at approximately 14:00 pm where your camp will be set up for you.
Day 4: Sahuayaco - Llactapata - Aguas calientes
After breakfast we continue our walk for 3 hours in one gradual way up to Llactapata. This is a inca place found twenty years ago and also still a private property , the spectacular waterfall view in from of Llactapata mountin. The vegetation is greener as you reach Sahuayaco view the Hydroelectric near Machu Picchu (1870 meters) which produces electrical energy for the city of Cusco. We will then rest, and have lunch and we bid farewell support staff. Here you can decide between continuing the trek to Aguas Calientes, which logically would be the most ideal or take a train from the Hydro to Aguas Calientes, at this point you sleep in a hotel located in the area.
Day 5: Aguas calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco
After breakfast we start walking toward the archaeological center of Machu Picchu (2450msnm). If we are lucky you will see the sunrise on the Inca city Machu Picchu. This is a moving and magical sight. You will have your tour for two hours by the same professional guide who accompanied you during the walk and then have time to take pictures, relax or if you still feel energetic climb the Waynapicchu Mountain that over looks Machu Picchu. Then when you finish and arrive back in Aguas Calientes we will take the train back to Cusco.
